Gafcon Australia notes with sadness that the Anglican Church in Wales has now voted to bless same-sex marriages. This is inconsistent with the teaching of Christ that marriage is between a man and a woman. Their bishops introduced and unanimously supported this change. By conducting blessings, the bishops are claiming that God approves such a union and signifies it as holy.
When our Lord spoke on marriage he quoted Genesis as God’s enduring standard for humanity: ““Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Matthew 19.4-6 (NIV)
The Welsh Church’s liturgical novelty is a departure from Christ’s teaching and therefore from Christ himself. It is a decisive move away from Anglican doctrine. It will be the cause of further deeply impaired fellowship within the Communion and the departure of many from the Church.
Please join us in praying for repentance, for the reformation of the Church in Wales, and for faithful Anglicans who are marginalised by this action.
